A little something from an email from Rick Redford:
I have used this example to test the level of commitment of many leaders and distributors. I have some good news and some bad news… The good news is that it only takes $29.95 to join ForeverGreen, and the bad news is that it only takes $29.95 to join ForeverGreen. And with the current incentive it is free at this time.
I don’t know about you, but I have spent more than $29.95 on a bad meal. The point that I am making is that the level of financial commitment is so low, that it is too easy to walk away from it.
What if you invested thousands of dollars in your business? Back in the 1960s, 1970s and 1980s owning a franchise was the “opportunity”. The average dollar amount invested in a franchise was about $60,000 as an initial investment. Do you think that if you had invested $60,000 to begin your ForeverGreen business that you would be doing the same things you are doing today? That is the difference between performing as if it was a hobby, or a business.
How many times have you heard someone say, “Sure, I will give it a try.”? This is the same as saying, “Sure that sounds like a nice hobby.” This would also be the first step to failing. Asking this important question can be the difference between success and failure for those new people you bring into your business. I have long believed that what we are looking for is leaders who share in the same passion and enthusiasm as I do. What that means is looking for people who can 1) hold themselves accountable, and 2) allow you to help them hold themselves accountable. Someone that is only in “hobby” will not do either.
I invite you to do two things this week;
1) Ask yourself the question, “Am I really in business,
It might be a very interesting conversation that comes out of asking these questions. You may even find that people may look differently at your level of commitment when you do ask them.
ForeverGreen represents a very real and dynamic business. In this day of financial insecurity and fear, we have an answer to those fears and concerns. It is a business of hope and opportunity, not a hobby of convenience.
What are your goals for your 03World business? Decide today what you want to accomplish.
Random things I learned this week:
*In a study from the Kaiser Permanente Center for Health Research in Portland, Oregon it was found that people who maintain an eating log (also called a food journal or food diary) lost an average of 18 pounds in six months, twice as much as those who didn’t. You can double the amount of weight you shed simply by writing down what you eat. You can see where extra calories are coming from and thus make the changes you need to make.
*In another study it was found that women who took 29 minutes to finish a meal felt fuller and yet ate less than those who finished their meal in 9 minutes. Setting aside more time for your meal and chewing each bite more slowly can be beneficial.
*Researchers at the University of California, Irvine have discovered that avocados, nuts, and olive oil are more filling than other foods because their unsaturated fats trigger the release of a compound called oleoylethanolamide (OEA) in the small intestine which activates a brain circuit that makes us feel more satisfied for longer.
Take what you want from these findings, apply it to your life, and see what happens!
It has been two months since I last posted. I have had a few twinges of guilt during these past two months because I knew this blog was being neglected. But, after some soul searching, I have decided that I don’t need to feel guilty. I haven’t been able to post here because I have been busy focusing on my family. Family is most important to me so they should be my top priority.
I once wrote a post about taking small steps as I try to get things done in my life. I need to remember that. If the needs of my family prevent me from posting, then so be it. I’ve kept in touch with team members via email, so it’s not like I’ve been neglecting this little part-time business. And that’s what it is to me right now…a part-time business. At this time in my life my kids keep me too busy to run it as a full-time business, and that is okay. And that is what is so cool about this type of business. You can decide what you want to get out of it and put in the amount of time needed to get those results. I only desire a little extra income right now, so spending most of my time with my family is just fine. I hope each of my team members will evaluate what their goals and priorities are and set their schedule for this business accordingly.
My new goals as far as this blog go are to post on Tuesdays with tips for running the business and to post on Thursdays under the title “Think Thin Thursday” with ideas for losing weight, staying healthy, etc.
If I am unable to post on a Tuesday or a Thursday, am I going to feel guilt? Naw!
Although the most popular goals for 2009 will be health and fitness related as has been the case in years past, the percentage of people setting health and fitness goals is expected to be down. Due to the economy, many people are changing their focus from health and fitness to home improvement and financial health, such as getting out of debt.
Setting a health/fitness related goal can still be consistent with cutting back financially. There are many ways to get fit physically that won’t break the bank.
*Add taking a walk during your lunch break to your routine.
*Use FIXX shakes in the morning and supplement with fresh fruits and skim milk.
*Trade healthy recipes with colleagues.
*Enter a local race or marathon.
*Introduce FORM capsules to your daily routine and take control over portion sizes of your meals.
*Get up from your desk and do some stretching exercises and/or walk around for a few minutes.
*Don’t eat dinner in front of the tv. People tend to eat more if they are eating in front of the tube.
*Don’t pay someone to clean your house or do your yard work. Do the work yourself and burn calories!
*Take the stairs instead of the elevator.
*Walk your dog.
*Get a neighborhood group together to jog, play basketball, swim, or hike.
Use some of these ideas or come up with your own. Setting fitness or health related goals for 2009 can still be a top priority!
Some tips on losing weight from REAL people featured in Family Circle Magazine.
*Stay active. Take a kickboxing class or a Latin dancing class. Walk for 30 minutes in the morning. Use resistance bands for 30 minutes in the evening.
*At work sit on an inflatable Pilates ball for 30 minutes instead of the desk chair to tighten your abs.
*Limit yourself to four or five bites of dessert. Those few bites are enough to satisfy your craving for the treat. Or switch to diet-friendly desserts such as Skinny Cow low-cal ice cream sandwiches or sugar-free Jell-O chocolate pudding.
*Fill up on fruits–especially those low in sugar and calories like apples and peaches.
*Ask questions at restaurants. Find out how items on the menu are prepared. If you hear, “with butter,” or “with cheese,” choose another menu item.
Real people have had success with these tips. Try them and see which work for you!
Noodles, rice, and potatoes are rich in a kind of resistant starch. The more they cool after being heated , the more their chemicals crystallize. When you eat these starches cold the body takes more time to digest them–so you won’t get hungry again for awhile.
So, after dinner, stick the leftover pasta or potatoes in the fridge and make yourself a salad with them the next day. It will help you eat less!

Researchers from the University of Queensland in Australia tracked adults wearing accelerometers (small electronic devices that attach to the waistline of pants and measure the intensity of physical activity). They found that if a person interrupts hours of sitting at their desk with five-minute breaks to move around, chances are they will reduce their waist circumference.
The good news is that you don’t have to break a sweat, even just standing and stretching your arms and legs quickly is beneficial. Walking briskly over to the water cooler more often during the day could help a person shed pounds.
Take those five-minute breaks!
Some tips on making Thanksgiving healthy from Walter Willett, MD (Reader’s Digest, Nov. 2008 pg. 90):
*In your stuffing substitute olive oil for butter, whole grain bread for white bread, nuts and dried fruit for sausage.
*Put half the usual sugar in your cranberry relish recipe.
*Substitute smoked turkey for the ham hocks in your collard greens.
*Run longer than usual on Thanksgiving morning to compensate for the extra calories later.
*Put small amounts on your plate, and eat slowly.
Enjoy the holiday by focusing on your family!
